This coalition began in the early 80's as health and human service providers
began to see local services cut from their community. It was apparent
at that time for the need for community advocacy, legislative involvement
and ongoing assessment of the community/people's needs. We consist of
local community leadership-local government, police, health, social, human
service agencies. We welcome the consumers at large to voice their concerns;
work together with grant applications, problem solving etc. We currently
have State Senator, State Rep and Congressman representation on this team
as well. We include those services beyond the Greater Gardner area also
that may service our community.

“Sure it is only a river, a river that has been on the South Coast
since the dawn of time. Here, it is known as the Acushnet River, one of
the world's best natural harbors, a river that hosted farmers, whalers,
textile manufacturers, and others; and assisted them in finding their
fortunes. But it is also the home and the beginnings for the HANDS ACROSS
the RIVER COALITION - a group that has learned the lessons that nature
has taught, the insights a river can offer. It is a river that grabs one's
heart, and teaches us all to strive for the protection of our environment,
to heed the needs of nature, to reach out to the communities on the shores
and pass on the message of environmental awareness. Contact us at the
office for special attention, but feel free to explore our site....”
